Why Is Copying Text from Images Now Possible?

A photo contains pixels rather than editable words. Optical character recognition, or OCR, identifies text in the image and converts it into character data you can search, copy or edit.

The useful part

Modern systems can identify text blocks, lines and words across supported scripts. OCR predates today's AI tools, though newer models have improved its capabilities. Blur, glare, tiny print and unfamiliar layouts can still cause mistakes.

Try this

Use a sharp, well-lit image and crop around the text. After copying, double-check names, numbers and dates. Also check whether your chosen tool processes sensitive images on-device or uploads them.
