Learn Chinese for hospital visits,
with English to guide you.
Chinese characters, English meanings, and pronunciation guides, all in one place. Medical Chinese helps you practice the words and conversations you might encounter at a hospital.
You might know how to introduce yourself in Chinese. Checking in for an appointment or understanding a question about symptoms is a different kind of practice. Medical Chinese is an Android language-learning app built around those situations. Choose learn Chinese through English in settings, and use English explanations as you work through Chinese vocabulary and conversations. You don’t need to know Korean to use this mode.
A look inside the app
Start with a word. Put it in context.
On the vocabulary screen, you’ll see a Chinese word, its English meaning, and pinyin: the Roman-letter spelling that helps you read its pronunciation. The symptom list, for example, includes words such as “headache” and “cough.” Short conversations then show how staff and patients use phrases in context. You can also switch between Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
The app covers topics such as checking in, scheduling appointments, discussing symptoms, examinations, and consultations. You can browse common hospital expressions or choose a clinical area to study.
Keep your first session simple
- Choose learn Chinese through English in the app's language settings.
- Pick a familiar situation, such as checking in for a first appointment. Read the English meaning alongside the Chinese sentence and pinyin.
- Listen to the Chinese, then try saying the line yourself. Adjust playback speed if you need more time.
- Use recording and playback to review your own attempt. Save expressions you want to revisit.
After trying the app, I think it’s a useful study companion for hospital Chinese. I’d treat it as a place to practice vocabulary and speaking alongside other study materials. If you’re preparing for an interpreting certification, check your exam’s requirements separately; the app isn’t an official certification course.
What to know before you download
No account registration is required. Recordings and learning records are stored on your device. The app includes ads, and some additional conversations can be unlocked by choosing to watch a rewarded ad.
Recording is for self-review. The app does not automatically grade pronunciation or assess interpreting ability.
This is an educational language-learning app, not a medical advice or diagnostic tool. It does not replace a qualified interpreter in patient care, and it does not guarantee certification or exam results.
See if it fits your study routine
If you want to practice hospital Chinese with English support, take a look at the current app listing and see whether its learning format suits you.
